Rethinking an e-learning tool as an inspiration platform

Being able to work on an e-learning tool was high on my wishlist. Because of that, I was really excited to hear that I would get to work on one during my time at Let’s Talk. This e-learning tool by Syndle allows teachers and students to share inspiration with their class. Also, they can read through materials, create and take exams, and share + discuss results.

In this project I was responsible for the initial intake, exploring requirements and wishes with the client, creating wireframes and brainstorming in a team setting, making a design system, and making visual designs for a desktop + phone app. For confidentiality reasons, not all findings and deliverables are shared in this portfolio.

– The then-current UI left some people wandering and not being able to complete tasks. Task completion was a key focus.

– There were some permissions and user roles that were desired by the client. These needed to be explored and accounted for.

– The client wanted to encourage users to inspire themselves and their class, through using visuals and photos with the files they uploaded. This had to be prominently highlighted in the tool.

After learning more about the challenges of this project, we landed on wireframes and visual designs.

An example of the wireframes I created for the project. Check out all the screens here.

– We included a dashboard in the e-learning tool, with focus on inspiration, conversations with other users, and updates for their learning activities. This includes grades, but also comments, making the tool focused on community rather than hard results.

– A navigation structure with big icons, followed by horizontal smaller tabs, was chosen to invoke a sense of transparency and friendliness.

– A new functionality in the tool was an inspiration board, where groups could together share any visual means to inspire one another for the project.

My favourite part of this project were the sessions I had with the project team of the client. Collaborating, talking and sketching are my favourite ways to ensure active client participation, and have the whole team on the same page.
